(JSS3) Year 9 Career Day at Premiere Academy

(JSS3) Year 9 Career Day at Premiere Academy

Even the least learners are posed with one of the life’s biggest questions: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Thinking that far ahead into the future can be overwhelming. However, career awareness activities like Career Day, helps students figure out and pave their pathway to adulthood to help them become what they want to be.

In this light, Premiere Academy, in her commitment to raising, moulding and building future leaders, held Career Day for Year 9 students on the 31st of May, 2022 themed – ‘I can be what I want to be’. The event among many things gave our Year 9 students as well as those careers they were unaware of an up-close look at the different career choices that align with their interests and talents and then connect them to corresponding learning.
In his speech at the event, Mr John Olugbenro, the principal of Premiere Academy explained that the school is focused on imparting young minds and helping them gain direction. He went further by saying events of this nature, beyond getting students excited about the plethora of career choices, show students the relationship between what they are learning in school and the career opportunities that exist: that a Career Day is imperative for them to know the importance of learning and how it relates their academics.

During the event, drama was staged by the Year 9 students of Premiere Academy to draw attention to the inherent parental pressures associated with choosing a career path. The drama also enlightened the audience with facts about choosing a career and the influence that parents have on their children.
Why Host a Career Day for Year 9?

This is simply because, students in Year 9 are at a defining moment of their lives where they would have to make a critical decision for themselves whether to be in the Sciences, Arts or Commercial knowing that the decision they make now will affect them for the rest of their lives.
Check out More Reasons we hosted a Career Day for our students in Year 9!
• To nurture career curiosity and exploration – Animator, engineer, web designer. Career Day exposes students to careers they may not have imagined. Students have the chance to learn about careers that align with their interests and skills so they can narrow down what careers to pursue in the future.
• To give students a first-hand look into choosing a career– Reading about a career in a textbook is very different from learning about a career straight from someone in the field. Career Day provides an interactive and dynamic learning experience, where students can ask questions directly to professionals and presenters can invite students to tackle real-world problems.
• To connect them with experts in their interested fields– Students don’t just learn from their teachers but also from experts and leaders that can play a vital role in a student’s education. During the event, students had the platform to directly interact with guest speakers. Having a diverse group of presenters allows students to see themselves represented in different career paths.

Conclusively, Premiere Academy will like to use this opportunity to offer unreserved gratitude to our esteemed parents and guest speakers of the event, Major General Timy Birigeni, Mrs Agomoh, an Entrepreneur, Mr Samuel Ofeleye, an ICT personnel and Miss Adaugo Joy Onyia, a motivational speaker, who shared insights about their profession and motivate students to take their education very seriously, while also giving students the opportunity to ask questions.

The presentations on career choices without doubt piqued the students’ interests. We believe at Premiere Academy that preparation is essential and that choosing the right career that aligns with students' interests and skills is akin to how much the child will succeed in life. It is a fact that where a child attends career day will have a lasting impact on their lives.
