6 Ways Premiere Academy Improves Discipline In School

Premiere Academy as one of the best secondary schools in Abuja has continued to stay true to its mission statement of creating well-adjusted, socially aware and responsible children through a rigorous educational programme that combines academic achievement with personal development.

No doubt, children can be very active and sitting on a desk for more than 5 hours during classroom activities - it is not easy for them but with discipline, children can show interest and the eagerness to learn even more.

One of our aims at Premiere Academy is to instill discipline in all our students. To achieve this, we have established a disciplined learning environment such that, our teachers' responsibilities involve counseling, mentoring and teaching students on how to use and apply acquired knowledge in their daily lives.

Inculcating discipline and good morals are important parts of our educational processes at Premiere Academy, because they play vital roles in helping students to achieve strong academic excellence, make wise decisions and stay focused on their studies. This gives credence to the unique setting of our boarding school which promotes leadership and discipline as essential life skills.

Below are Some of the Measures we have Put in Place to Ensure Discipline in Premiere Academy:
1. Premiere Academy has a Code of Conduct: a school should have a system that prevents students from deviating from the right behaviour. We have a list of rules and regulations published in a handbook at Premiere Academy and all our students are expected to abide by the rules and regulations therein. Also, rules and regulations are continuously spelt out to all students on a regular basis because humans have the tendency to forget laid down rules and regulations. Therefore, the Students’ Handbook is a guide to point them in the right direction.

2. We Plan and Organize Strategies: as one of our strategies to improve discipline in the school, all our teachers plan exhaustive scheme of work and also plan their lessons ahead of the class. They get all the study materials required for each lesson before it commences. Aside from making learning more effective, they prevent unnecessary delays and distractions, allowing the students to focus more on the lessons.

3. We Tackle Problems Head on: one of the ways we've improved discipline in the school and classrooms is by dealing with issues as they arise. We don't overlook any bad behaviour with the hope that it won't happen a second time. once we discover a bad trait develop, we correct it immediately.

4. We Shun Inappropriate Behaviours: serious incidents of negative behaviours are strongly frowned upon in Premiere Academy. Appropriate disciplinary actions are meted out on students who display inappropriate behaviours. We also have a “discipline register” where all offences are recorded by the school for reference purposes.

5. We Reward Good Behaviour: traditional classroom reward systems can be somewhat controversial. There is evidence that suggests that while external rewards do provide short-term benefits and immediate results. However, studies have shown that this is outweighed by the longer-term effects, such as a child being less likely to do a specific task unless they are given a reward. Therefore, our classroom reward system at Premiere Academy is an important part of our classroom management which helps our students to increase their self-management skills.

6. Importance of Religion in School: we know the importance of religion at Premiere Academy as it helps students develop an understanding of character building. Our multi-faith-based system that gives students the freedom and platform to practise their respective religion and help them grow in their faith. We believe that the importance of religion in education helps their own personal development, support understanding of the spiritual and improves discipline in school.
