Premiere Academy Marks World Science Day 2022

Ascribe kudos or a eulogy to Science if you are reading this article. How? This is because you're either reading this on a mobile device or other technological devices, which are products of Science.
Furthermore, the need for a far-reaching application/implication of Science raises the question of how Science can best fulfil its commitment to the society, and how we can create dynamic connections between knowledge and action.

These concerns have led to a new scientific approach and sustainable science. Thus, November 10th of each year has been earmarked by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as World Science Day for Peace and Development to highlight the important role of Science in the society and the need to engage the wider public on debates on emerging scientific issues especially as it underlines the importance and relevance of Science in our daily lives.

As a school that is focused on imparting and preparing students for a tech-based future, events of this nature are excellent avenues to develop a scientific technological approach to promoting practical solutions for sustainable development and to expand on the key objectives of this year’s World Science Day, Premiere Academy organised a Science programme themed “Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development”, which had in attendance school management, staff, students and invited schools, and a Keynote Speaker; Dr Mrs Engr. Ishidi Edith,
Mr John Olugbenro, the Principal of Premiere Academy gave his opening remarks, which explained the key objectives of the programme while the guest speaker and Miss Diana Molokwu, an SS3 Science student of Premiere Academy x-rayed the sensitivity of the topics in focus, and the need for immediate actions. Some of these are:
1. Strengthening public awareness of the role of Science in peaceful and sustainable Societies
2. Promoting national and international solidarity for shared Knowledge and scientific cooperation.
3. Renewing National and international Commitment to the use of Science for the benefit of societies and
4. Drawing attention to the challenges faced by Science and raising support for scientific endeavours.

With the aim of the programme in focus, it was gathered that Premiere Academy as a committed member and an advocate for scientific research and innovation, has put in place certain infrastructure and learning methods to bridge the gap between knowledge and action as far as Science and Technology is concerned. With a first-class Robotics Engineering Laboratory, equipped with artificial intelligence workstations and simulators, a state-of-the-art ICT - Coding Laboratory with fast internet access, high-speed computers and software for students to come in to learn, study and build software that will add value to the society. The Principal further mentioned the Premiere Academy's investment in engaging highly experienced technology teachers and a vast array of ICT-driven resource persons to further help students hold a firm grip on these technologies.

As the event came to wrap with the array of student projects displayed to the guests, such as 4 wheel-drive Robotic Car with Object collision sensors, Infrared controlled water dispensers, Robotic Spider Spy cameras, Bluetooth controlled Wheeled Robot, Quadcopter FPV Camera Drone, Parcel Delivery Drone, Line Following Robot and High-resolution Hologram devices.

The Guest speaker ended her remarks with high expectations from the students of Premiere Academy in future, who have worked hard to deliver on their selected science projects, within the enabling environment.
