Cleaner environment; healthier students at Premiere Academy

A young environmentalist, Greta Thunberg says " How dare you", challenging world leaders to pay more attention to the environment.

Sensitising our students to the terrible effects of poor waste management in society is one of our key mandates. And as part of our social responsibilities, we do not only focus on classroom learning but salvaging our environment by repairing severe damage to our air, water and surrounding.

As one of the obligations of our community service department, we organise our students to embark on routine cleaning exercises within and far outside the school environment. This perennial exercise has gone a long way to impact on the general health status of our students, at and in school.

Saturday, March 18 2023, marked a successful Cleaning Campaign. The students started with the school surroundings and worked their way to Mr Biggs Eatery Road, Lugbe. As soon as they collected all the trash, the students called the garbage collection company to rightly dispose of them.

The purpose of this Clean-up Campaign was to educate students on the negative effects of littering the environment. We laid emphasis on how a clean environment positively impacts the assimilation and learning abilities of students. This campaign also highlighted the power of working together and commitment to creating a better environment. “It was a wonderful activity which provided a chance to work as a team with our teachers so as to keep our environment free of pollution,” said a student of Premiere Academy.

In recent times, young people are now leading the charge to protect our planet. The question for you is, “in what ways are you contributing to this growing movement of environmental action?” For us at Premiere Academy, we are excited that our students are learning that with a little gesture of properly disposing of minor wastes such as water sachets and biscuit wrappers, including volunteering their time to the cause that helps the planet.

You don’t have to gather a team and tackle a huge area of waste to have a successful clean-up ( it’s cool if you do!). It can be as easy as picking up litter around your neighbourhood with a few friends. When you pick up trash, you remove physical hazards for wildlife, decrease the pollution of groundwater, and protect habitat structure.

So, we put it to you: “How dare YOU NOT keep your environment clean.”
