October 11th every year is earmarked as the International Day of the Girl Child. The Day of the Girl Child focuses on the need to address the challenges the Girl Child faces, to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
To commemorate this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, Premiere Academy Lugbe, Abuja as a proponent for the rights of the Girl Child, having produced the Female with the best WAEC result nationwide, last year (2020), and a crusader of the need to address the inequalities the Girl Child faces in society, especially in the digital space - a highly male-dominated industry, visited Anglican Girls Grammar School Apo, Abuja. The visitation was borne out of her core value of adequately preparing students for the future so that, they can be relevant in society.
In line with this year's theme — Digital Revolution which is meant to Inspire the Girl Child to take up opportunities in the digital space, the visitation was organised to sensitize the Girl Child about the numerous career opportunities available in the digital space that lead to wealth creation, and the need to for the Girl Child to be at par with her male counterpart to put an end to the gender digital dichotomy deeply prevalent in the profession.
The visitation also encouraged the Girl Child to maximize her potential, discover herself and nurture her skills to be significant in the digital world.
More so, as the sensitization continues, the interest of the female students were stimulated to take seriously STEM subjects just as their male counterparts. As the activities earmarked for the day came to a close, the students of Anglican Girls Grammar School had an eye-opener with regards to digital realities and the skills they need to excel and be significant in the digital age.
Premiere Academy has been providing a conducive atmosphere for the Girl Child to excel in digital technology for the past sixteen years, by running programmes such as coding, robotics, electronics, technical drafting, and more with the introduction of 3D printing recently.
The academy believes that the current dichotomy in the digital space between male and female gender can be substantially bridged by creating awareness to as many young girls as possible.
The school appreciates the Management, Principal, staff, and students of Anglican Girls Grammar School for making the day a success.
