As part of our efforts to groom future leaders, Premiere Academy Lugbe Abuja organised her 12th Annual Inter-house Sports Competition on the 25th of November 2021, themed - 'Teamwork Wins Championships'.
This year’s Inter-house Sports Competition saw Emerald House (Green House), emerge as the winner; Sapphire House (Blue House), clinched the second position, Topaz House (Yellow House). third and Ruby (Red House), fourth.
Premiere Academy’s members of staff and students were filled with excitement as they anticipate the much-awaited events of the competition at the school stadium which has earlier begun with HEAT in the school premises. This annual event could not hold last year obviously due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Mr. Olugbenro John – the principal of the Academy while speaking at the occasion encouraged teamwork and leadership skills in the educational system because these skills would impact society and the youth positively as they transit into leaders and solution providers. He further added that to shape socially adjusted children, they should be allowed to exchange ideas, learn from one another and to contribute their quota in a team because collaboration always leads to success.
His speech was preceded by the Light Burning Ceremony which symbolizes unity and underlines that the Inter-house Sports Competition was a healthy contest. Thereafter, there was a colourful display of March-Past by the different Houses. This was followed immediately by track events. Worthy of note, were categories of race which involved the teaching, the non-teaching and the Management staff where participants showcased impressive running skills that got spectators gazing with amazement. To get members of the audience entertained, there were dance performances by the Cheerleaders of the various Houses at different intervals.
With regards to the performances of the various Houses, Emerald House obtained a total of 177 points, Sapphire: 169, Topaz: 168, and Ruby: 163. Emerald House (Green) was declared the winner of this year’s Inter-House Sports Competition at the end of the event.
This year’s competition did not fall short of our expectations as it witnessed special guests like; Augustine Owen Eguavoen - a former professional footballer who was the manager of Nigeria U23 national team and also a former manager of the Nigeria Senior National team, Sunday Mba - Super Eagles player who made the Super Eagles win the Africa Nations Cup (AFCON) in 2013, Patrick Pascal - a former Nigerian footballer, who is currently the Super Eagles team coordinator and chairman of Bauchi Football Association, Fegor Ogude - a Nigerian football player, Bunmi Haruna, an On-Air Personality with Cool FM Abuja and Robinson Okosun – Head of Psychology Unit of the Nigeria Football National team.
As the event came to a close, Augustine Owen Eguavoen emphasized the need to discover talents at a tender age and to produce international stars in the nearest future. He encouraged students to participate in sports, uphold good conduct and abstain from drugs and alcohol.
In all, the 12th Annual Inter-house Sports Competition themed ‘Teamwork Wins Championships’ was a success. The competition portrayed the spirit of sportsmanship which thrives amongst students of Premiere Academy. For us at Premiere Academy, our Annual Inter-House Sports competition is important because it instils and fosters a sense of teamwork, collaboration and healthy competition in our students.
