The Second edition of the Premiere Academy Tech Day Competition and Exhibition, with the theme ‘Young Minds: Inspire, Explore and Innovate’, which was held on the 21st of January, 2023 was greater was a greater success!
There is so much potential in the next generation and it is our mandate at Premiere Academy to nurture them so that they can be harnessed and become practicable in solving real-world problems.
We believe at Premiere Academy that young minds must be inspired so as to explore science and technology as this will strongly determine the future of our planet. Thus, in her commitment to raising, moulding and building a technologically driven generation of students, Premiere Academy has held two editions of Tech Day Competition and Exhibition.
.
The second edition of the Tech Day Competition and Exhibition inter alia, created an opportunity to demystify technology, share knowledge and information to promote innovative thinking amongst students who will achieve global development, wealth creation while also encouraging them to take up opportunities in the digital space by being exposed to career opportunities available to them.
Participants from various schools took part in a host of activities such as quiz competitions, on-the-spot team task and project exhibitions, as well as other activities that encourage ability to translate theoretical knowledge of technology acquired into viable, useful and practical projects. Participants demonstrated a high level of critical thinking and practical abilities. On display were exhibitions by Premiere Academy students who came up with innovative tech projects such as IoT (Internet of Things) ,Controled Robotic Arm, LED (Light Emitting Diode) Scrollboard, Radio Frequency (RF) Controlled Robot Car, 3D-Printed Obstacle Dodging/avoiding Bot, Line Tracking Robotic car, Camera and Parcel Delivery Quadcopter Drones, 3D-Printed quadcopter drone, Fixed Wings Drones, Electric Car (Go-Kart), Stair Climbing Robot, Self-Packing Robot Car, Fingerprint Operated Door 3D-Printed Spider Robot and many more.
Mr Olugbenro John, the Principal of the Academy while speaking during the event, said he believes that the programme is an opportunity to inspire young people to take up an interest in technology and also to become problem solvers. Premiere Academy has been providing a conducive atmosphere for students to excel in digital technology for the past sixteen years by running practical programmes such as Coding, Robotics, Electronics, Technical drafting and more with the recent introduction of 3D-Printing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning.
There is no gainsaying that Premiere Academy offers the right education that supports students to develop a broad set of skills and attitudes to succeed in life – and that goes much further than sitting at a desk and learning for individual grades to stimulate their minds and interests through mentorship and the right guidance to succeed. With events such as the Tech Day Competition, the kids' quest for expression of their innate design, creative and inventive abilities is brought to the limelight in a suitably conditioned environment.
This year's Technology Day Competition saw Claret International School emerge as the winner. Securing the second position was Glowing Ages Academy, while Lakeland School took the third position. Of the many things that happened, sparking the imaginations of the kids is among the most rewarding. All the participants and guests had access to test-run all the projects displayed, including a DJI Mavic Mini quadcopter drone, using telescopes to stargaze, Virtual Reality, the creative energy of a collaborative space, and the kids were encouraged and inspired to imagine the possibilities.
The Special Guest at the event, Mrs Olayinka Fagbemiro, “Fellow Techwomen”– is the Founder/CEO of Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) Nigeria Network and National Coordinator of Universe Awareness (UNAWE) - NGOs that popularize STEM in Nigeria through astronomy, with school children as the target audience. In her address, she encouraged the audience to develop an open mind towards technology to advance society and shape the future. This was inspiring and generated a lot of excitement.
The TECH DAY would not have been a complete success without the wonderful support of our generous sponsors (Wema, Zenith GT bank, St George's University USA and the Founder/CEO of (AWB), who believe in supporting young people to be the best they can be – our future innovators and industry leaders.
As a school that is passionate about technology, Premiere Academy hopes to keep on stimulating the young fertile minds towards technological innovation in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.
